Frequently Asked Questions
What curriculum do you use?
We use the Creative Curriculum, which is based on
learning centers, and "hands-on" based activities. You will not find
workbooks, worksheets, or color sheets. We encourage the
children
to be creative . The children are very proud of their "creations."
Children retain more by touching, smelling, tasting, listening and seeing the
objects and topics being studied each week.
What backgrounds do the administration and the teaching staff have?
All of our administrators have four-year degrees. Several of our teaching staff also have undergraduate college degrees and a number of part time college students are working toward their bachelor degrees in the child care field. We also encourage our staff to obtain their Child Development Associate (CDA) certification.
Is your staff trained in CPR?
The State of Georgia requires 50% of the staff in
attendance to be trained in CPR and First Aid. At our center we require all of
our staff to be trained. Training classes of all
types are offered to the staff throughout the year.
What is the ratio of teachers to children?
We anticipate bettering the State-required ratios by two. Generally the infants are in a 1 to 4 ratio ( State is 1:6); our toddlers are 1 to 6 ( State is 1:8); our two year olds are 1 to 8 ( State is 1:10); our 3 and 4 year olds are 1 to 13 (State is 1:15); and our school-age children are 1 to 20 (State is 1:25). Having lower ratios allows for more teacher-child interactions throughout the day.
What do you do if the children are sick?
As much as we sanitize and disinfect throughout,
children still may get sick. We notify the parents if their children are running
a fever, have diarrhea, or are just not acting themselves.
For the health of the other children, the child who is ill may return to school
24 hours after his/her temperature is back to normal (should be 24 hours
"fever free").
We will administer prescription medications if needed. Any over-the-counter medications must be accompanied by a doctor's note of approval and stating proper dosage. Faxed notes are okay. We make every effort to keep all Kids 'R' Kids children safe and healthy.
Do we pay when our child is out?
When a child is out sick or on vacation for one week, you pay 50% of your weekly rate. Absent credits are given for these situations. A total of two absence credits are granted to each child over a calendar year.
How do you know who can pick up my child?
The only persons authorized to pick up your children are those you specify on the enrollment packet you complete. Those names are entered into the computer and will show up on the "touch screen" that is located in the lobby of our center. For security purposes, our front door remains locked at all times and everyone must be buzzed in. Any special pick-up requests must be in writing and signed by the child's guardian.
How old will the other children be in my child's age group?
Children are grouped based on development rather than simple chronological age. This approach enables students to enjoy a higher level of accomplishment, while minimizing their frustration. By diminishing gaps in the behavioral development within the class, peer groups are created that share similar cognitive aptitudes. The lessons in each classroom can then be customized to more specifically meet the student's abilities.
